The Romans and the Greeks had it right, with the way they pictured the many faces of Nature. This greystone column depicts the four faces of the wind. The North Wind who is more commonly referred to as Old Man Winter, has eyebrows, a beard and a mustache that have obviously held much ice and snow when the north winds blow. He seems to want a break and some time in the summer sun but until then he will just tell you stories about how hard he had it as a young breeze. The East Wind is a less common face and is a woman who has not seen much time, so she has that deer in headlights look of surprise that you get when you hear "The winds are blowing in from the East across the Lake". Her eyes and mouth are wide open and she seems to be saying, "Look at Me, I am from the East". Her face is surrounded by what appears to be a twisting vine. The wide eyed, smiling South Wind is smug in the knowledge that her southernly winds brings warmth across the country. She is surrounded by flowers, leaves, butterflies and berries as well as the knowledge that she loved throughout. The West Wind appears to be sleeping but she is doing the same thing you or I would do. She is closing her eyes to the dust that her strong winds stir up. The Fall leaves that surround her face were on the ground prior to her last big gust. Her lips are closed as she likes to hum as she blows in from the west (the faster the wind - the higher the tone) That is the sound you always think you hear as the wind picks up in speed from the West. These four faces live in harmony on the Four Winds Column. It measures 20" High x 11" Wide x 11" Deep and is made of a durable grey poly resin suitable for outdoors (which is where the wind belongs). This Four Winds Column is elegant, gothic and Romanesque. It is the perfect centerpiece for the garden, shouldn't you have it in yours?
