Powellton once heard as a baby egret, that if you only stood on one leg at a time, you would NEVER wear your legs out. Then he gained weight (during his ice cream phase) and had to stand on 2 feet for a while. Powellton went on a low fat diet and got back to a slimmer look which has allowed him to go back to standing on only 1 leg at a time. There were times other egrets in the neighborhood made fun of him, but now they realize how hard it is and you will see other egrets practicing all over the country. Like any egret, he is found in large and small flocks usually around grazing cattle or wild animals where they pick off ticks and parasites from the other animals. Powellton's color consists of various shades of dark brown with hints of black but the sun will give his protective high gloss finish different looks in the light. He stands 2 feet high x 1 foot 10 inches wide and 6 inches deep. He is handwelded in Africa of recycled 55 gallon steel drums by welders and their assistants who are provided with schooling, training, housing, food, and medical benefits. The metal drums are first burnt in order to remove any inner residue and outer color. They are then cut, flattened, and marked with the design prior to being cut. Each assistant then pounds the design into the form before handing it to the welder to be completed. Once the welder has completed the bird or animal, they are checked over by the welder, coated with 2 coats of protective polyurethane and tagged with the welder's name. Even though each bird or animal has a pattern, no 2 birds or animals are identical because each is hand made allowing for the character of the assistant and welder to be included in each striking metal piece. Don't be fooled by cheap imitations made of tin, these are long lasting birds that add elegance to any pond or garden. Powellton will teach you how to balance on 1 leg if you bring him into your home. His brothers Horatio (the Egret with 2 feet on the ground) and Tioga (otherwise known as the walking Egret) both would miss him greatly - so don't split up the family - Get All Three!
